Colored purple and trimmed with gold, the Remington Pro Thermaluxe looks like a luxury hair dryer. Priced at less than $40, it is surprisingly affordable, especially given its impressive performance.
The Thermaluxe is a full-size hair dryer that combines thermal technology with ceramic heat. It is suitable for use on many hair types and works especially well with dry or fine hair. Ceramic heat emits negative ions to dry hair faster and smooth frizz. Complementary to ceramic heat, thermal technology provides constant, even heat at every setting to improve the hair dryer’s performance and minimize damage to your hair.
The hair dryer has an 1,875-watt motor and weighs 1.7 pounds. Its 7-foot cord is tangle-free for optimal maneuverability. The Pro Thermaluxe has a removable endcap to let you clean its filter. It comes with more accessories than any other hair dryer we tested, providing two concentrators, a diffuser and three sectioning clips. The hair dryer’s motor and cord are professional grade.
The Remington hair dryer has three heat settings and two speed settings. Like every blower we tested, it has a cool-shot button to close the hair shaft and help you set your style. Its air speed ranges from 24.1 to 30.7 feet per second, and it has a temperature range of 80 to 169 degrees. Although its attachments are hard to remove, they are durable and attractive.
While its handle has a comfortable grip, some of our testers thought the dryer’s weight was unbalanced. “I think I would get tired of holding this for very long,” one tester told us.
But another member of our panel thought the dryer was well designed. “I like this one,” she said. “It feels like one I would buy.”
Regardless of whether their hair was fine or thick, each of our testers with straight hair commented that the Remington Pro Thermaluxe was effective on their hair type, and they liked the blower’s air speed and temperature.
One of our testers with curly hair appreciated the hair dryer’s quality but thought its air speed was too fast. She also said the Remington dryer was too loud. At 83.4 decibels, it isn’t the quietest hair dryer we reviewed, but half of the models we tested make more noise. The tester recommended the Panasonic Nanoe, which has both a lower air speed and a lower volume, as the best blow dryer for curls.
The Remington Pro Thermaluxe’s four-year warranty is one of the best warranties available for hair dryers in the home market. (The Conair InfinitiPRO and BaByliss Nano Titanium are also covered for four years.) Consumer support is available by phone and email, and our experience with Remington was excellent.
