If you feel like trying to find a stand mixer that’s right for you is an exercise in compromise, you haven’t seen Cuisinart’s mixer yet. The electric mixer has the strongest motor of any mixer we tested, a generous bowl and three attachments that make it possible for you to whip, mix and knead. Additionally, it gives you the option of extra attachments so you can make pasta, grind grains or meat, shred cheese or vegetables and more.
The Cuisinart proved in our tests that it is a kitchen workhorse. It quickly and easily pulled a shaggy bread dough together and kneaded it into a perfect ball of smooth dough in the allotted 10 minutes.
Chocolate chip cookie dough was easy enough for this powerhouse to mix together, but the paddle didn’t pick up all of the butter and sugar to cream together as well as other mixers did. It’s nothing that a single scrape from a spatula can’t fix though.
Oddly, the egg whites we challenged this mixer to whip did not come together as quickly as the mixer’s competition. Eventually they did reach the stiff, dry peaks we were looking for just as the timer was going off, but the volume produced was only about six times greater than what we started with.
Like the best stand mixers on the market, the Cuisinart employs planetary-style mixing that moves ingredients all around the bowl. You have more control over how your recipes are mixed – folded, beat, whipped – because you have 12 speeds to choose from.
Most impressive, though, is the cup capacity of this mixer. It can mix a recipe with 12 cups of flour in it without burning up its motor – that’s several loaves of bread in one fell swoop. And if you happen to overload the mixer with heavy ingredients – fruitcake, molasses cookies and the like – you can rest easy because the Cuisinart will shut off before burnout.
Cuisinart’s stand mixer includes a low speed that’s meant for folding ingredients, which, combined with its tall stainless steel bowl, means that flour, powdered sugar and other mix-ins that tend to fluff up and out and onto you stay where you want them – in the bowl. Pair those features with the splashguard and you can hang your apron back up. The 15-minute countdown timer makes it easy for you to set the mixer to knead dough and walk away – it shuts off when the timer reaches zero.
This mixer’s bowl has two handles on either side of it, which gives you more stability as you carry a bowl full of batter or dough. The locking tilt head – a common feature on home stand mixers – makes it easy for you to switch out attachments and gives you better access to the contents of the bowl.
The Cuisinart stand mixer comes with the attachments you’ve come to expect: The paddle attachment is perfect for folding ingredients, mixing frostings and creaming batter. A whisk gives you the ability to transform egg whites into meringues and ganache into whipped frosting – all without tiring out your arms. A dough hook turns your stand mixer into a dough mixer, which helps you create cinnamon rolls, bread and more without having to knead everything on your countertops.
Your mixer can do so many other things with additional attachments that are available for you to purchase. In addition to the pasta maker, food grinder, shredder and juicer, you can also buy a blender attachment, a food processor and other accessories.
Any stand mixer you buy includes a warranty that ensures your product is free of defects, but typically that warranty is only good for one year. Cuisinart guarantees its stand mixers as defect-free for three years. If you have any questions about your stand mixer, you can easily get a hold of customer support through the manufacturer’s website where there are phone numbers and contact forms. You can also find the user manual online, which is helpful when you don’t have access to the physical copy.
Cuisinart created a stand mixer that can easily fit on your counters and can power through the thickest dough. Although it didn’t whip up the most voluminous egg whites, it did especially well with cookie and bread dough. And Cuisinart offers one of the best warranties for a home stand mixer.
