Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker: Features

The standout feature of the Oster 20-Cup 003071 Rice Cooker is its huge capacity. At double the standard size, this rice cooker can create enough rice for the whole family with little effort on your behalf. With such a big capacity comes the drawback of this rice cooker taking up lots of counter space in your kitchen, which could be a real pain for some. If you don’t have as many mouths to feed, check out our Aroma ARC-616SB Sensor Logic rice cooker review.

The Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker has a locking lid that is cool to the touch when the machine is working, and it’s finished in black and stainless steel. Inside the rice cooker, you’ll find a non-stick inner pot. Although this inner pot is dishwasher-friendly, the best way to preserve the non-stick coating is to avoid using metal utensils on it and putting it in the dishwasher.

There are five cooking functions including brown rice, white rice, steam, soup, and breakfast. In addition, this rice cooker also has a delay timer function - something which is pretty standard in rice cookers around this price bracket now.

As well as cooking rice the Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker has a steaming tray so that you can prepare vegetables and meats at the same time. Because of the large capacity of this rice cooker, you’ll be able to cook more meat and veggies than you would in a standard rice cooker.

The Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker is heavy though and its size and weight make it difficult to transport. This rice cooker also isn’t fitted with a picnic-style handle like the Zojirushi NS-TSC10 Rice Cooker. Because of this, you can really only use the rice cooker as an in-situ cooker.

Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker: User reviews

The Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker has an average rating of 4.6 out of five on Amazon. Its five-star reviews include comments such as ‘super easy to use’, ‘still working well after repeated use over several years’, and ‘highly recommended’.

The not so positive reviews mention that the electric cord is too short and that the lid collects a lot of water. Other reviews state ‘all my previous rice cookers could complete a pot of Jasmine rice in 20 minutes or so. My new Oster unit takes 45-60 minutes to cook the same rice.’

Should you buy the Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker?

If you want to create large amounts of rice in one go, then the Oster 20-Cup 003071 Digital Rice Cooker will be great for you. The steam basket will also allow you to prepare vegetables and meat at the same time.

However, if you need something to cook just a few cups of rice or perhaps something which can be easily moved or transported, consider the Oster 6-Cup 04722 review.
