The Foscam C2 excels at daytime video and audio quality, producing the clearest image and cleanest sound of any security camera in our lineup. But it doesn't perform nearly as well at night, and though it has a decent feature package, it is not the easiest camera to use.

As long as nothing moved in front of the camera, the video this home security camera captured during the day, and with low light, was exceptional in our tests. This camera performed among the best in a test that involved placing a white poster board 16 feet away from the camera. We were able to read the top four lines on the board, which less than half of the cameras allowed us to do.

Motion is a problem with this camera. The live feed and recordings of moving objects came out choppy – pausing, then speeding up to return to real time. At night, its LEDs illuminate far, but without the intensity needed to show detail, so the nighttime images are low quality. The images were further distorted by a halo effect that spread out from the center, making it even harder to see. Our top nighttime video pick, the Belkin NetCam HD+, had none of these issues.

The audio quality for the app and the camera is among the best we tested. We could hear and understand each word distinctly. The camera is also equipped with features you expect in the best security cameras, such as sound detection, digital zoom and a lens that gives you a wide-angle view of the room you're monitoring.

This camera has several strengths, but ease of use isn't one of them. It requires more setup than most of the security cameras we tested. There are three ways to connect it to Wi-Fi, but you may encounter problems connecting whichever method you choose. The Foscam C2 camera we tested rebooted three times on its own. The app, however, is straightforward with icons that are easy to understand.

Storage options come down to local storage or paying extra to access the company's cloud storage service. This wireless security camera also supports microSD cards of up to 64GB, which should last awhile, since it only records when it detects motion or sound. This Wi-Fi security camera comes with a standard one-year warranty. You can contact customer support with questions or concerns via email, live chat or its website. Foscam's website includes tutorials to help you learn how to use the camera, as well as other information to answer common questions.

The Foscam C2 has the best audio quality of any security camera we tested. While it produced some of the clearest daytime and low-light still images, it didn't perform nearly as well with moving objects, which often came out blurry. Also, this security camera didn't perform nearly as well at night. It has some nice features, like digital zoom and sound detection, but it can be difficult to use, and setup during testing was frustrating at times.
