The Husqvarna LC221AH is a powerful, self-propelled gas lawn mower with a 163cc engine. Its unconventional orange body makes it stand out, in terms of design, and its all-wheel drive makes it a good choice for yards with hilly yards or varied terrain.
This lawn mower has two variable speed levers for each hand. It also has 11 inch wheels in the back, which gives you extra traction over different types of terrain. If your yard is flat or has a gentle slope, there may not be a huge difference between this mower and a less expensive rear-wheel drive mower; however, for yards with serious grades, the all-wheel drive will make a noticable difference.
The manufacturer promises that the machine will start with just 2 pulls. In our past tests with Husqvarna mowers, we found this to be true, though we didn’t test this specific model.
This lawn mower has a lot of versatility and lets you mow using a variety of methods. You can discard grass through the back of the machine, using a bag, or discard it from the side without using a bag. You can also mulch the grass clippings if you want to put nutrients back into the soil.
The wheels’ height can be adjusted via four levers that extend past the wheels, and they can be clicked into place with a quick motion. This is less convenient than a single lever that adjusts multiple wheels simultaneously, but it’s well designed nonetheless.
Additionally, while this mower’s 21 inch cutting width is fairly standard, it provides a generous track that will let you cut a big yard quickly. This makes the Husqvarna LC221AH well suited for a medium to large yard – between a half and full acre.
This mower comes with a generous three-year warranty, which should give you plenty of use before it expires. Most of the mowers we looked at and tested had only 2-year warranties.
