The Michael Graves 2 Slice is a stylish toaster. Created by the Michael Graves Architecture & Design firm, this toaster has a distinct design. The toaster is shaped like an upright loaf of bread and has crisp copper trim. The surface consists of a reflective metal that will need to be wiped regularly to maintain its gloss. This unique design – some might call it “cute” or “cool” – will standout on your kitchen countertop.

Although this toaster looks good, it toasted poorly in our tests. We used the middle setting with our first test, and the toast came out burnt to a crisp. We reduced the setting for the following tests, but the crispy trend continued. No matter how much we adjusted, we could never get an even golden-brown on both sides. The toast was either over or under done.

However, as hot it got inside the toaster, it was surprisingly cool on the outside. In our safety test we took the average external temperature of each toaster after several consecutive toasting cycles. Of the ten toasters we reviewed, this unit was the coldest at 78.6 degrees Fahrenheit. This was significantly lower than the highest average of 129.3 degrees. You won't have to worry about getting burned while handling this toaster. This unit also has a unique toast-shaped progress indicator that shows the remaining time left on the toasting cycle.

This machine’s power cord is short, with a length of only 2.1 feet. This short length will limit where you can place the toaster, as you'll either need to put it near an outlet or use an extension cord. In addition to this limiting cord length, the manufacturer does not provide downloadable access to the user manual. If you purchase this toaster, be sure to keep the manual somewhere safe. If you happen to misplace it, you won't be able to find it online.

The Michael Graves 2 Slice is an attractive but poor performing toaster. With its prominent, loaf-shaped design, it will stand out among your kitchen appliances. However, its tendency to over burn bread left our toast lacking in our tests.
