The Electrolux Silent Performer has relatively strong suction and offers some impressive features for keeping your home clean and comfortable. The HEPA filtration system is designed to trap tiny pollen and dust particles to keep even the most allergic members of your household happy and healthy. It it's a little old to make our list of the best vacuum cleaners for home, though.

The Silent Performer was able to remove the different types of test messes we put in its path, though it did this slower than the two best canister vacuum cleaners. We spread kitty litter, sawdust and flour onto two types of carpeting and hard floors in our testing facility. We wanted to simulate different types of household messes – flour is like finer dust and sawdust is more like lightweight messes, including pet hair. The Electrolux was competitive but took more passes than many competitors to fully clean up the sawdust. It was great on the flour, though, so you can feel confident about its ability to clean up fine dust in your home.

The cleaning path is nice and wide with this Electrolux canister vacuum – wider than all but three in our comparison – so it can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. This vacuum cleaner also has a HEPA filter that can capture 99.97 percent of air pollutants that are as small as 0.3 microns. A strand of hair is about 100 to 150 microns wide, so you can potentially eliminate a good amount of indoor air pollution with this unit.

Only one unit in our vacuum cleaner reviews is lighter than this one, so getting it up and down stairs will be a very easy task. The body design is a little bulky, though, and the wheel design hindered maneuverability around furniture and other obstacles during our testing. In spite of its name the Silent Performer was only average for noisiness. Fully half of the units in our canister vacuum reviews were quieter than this one. The Silent Performer was not obnoxiously loud, though. The Silent Performer has a large bag capacity, so you don't have to empty it as often.

The Electrolux Silent Performer did not have the strongest suction, but it was able to clean all the test messes, even if it took a few more passes on some things. It is very lightweight so if you need your vacuum for cleaning more than one floor this is a good option. It also is designed to be very helpful to allergy sufferers with its bagged system and strong filter for trapping indoor air pollutants.
