The Samsung Motion Sync canister vacuum has a sleek body that rolls around on large, cambered wheels. These are the biggest wheels we tested and make a huge difference in the canister vacuum cleaner's maneuverability. Although they take up more space on the vacuum, the bin doesn't sacrifice size. The vacuum is quiet and easy to maintain, and it offers a full array of accessories. The Motion Sync is one of the best canister vacuums we tested, earning it the Top Ten Reviews Bronze Award.
The head of the vacuum uses 14 cyclonic chambers that you'll feel spinning as you clean your floors. These chambers provide strong suction. We performed a suction test to measure how much weight the head of the vacuum could lift off the ground. The Motion Sync lifted 51 ounces, the second most in the lineup. It sucked up fine dust effortlessly and only required four passes for a full cleaning.
Still, the Motion Sync struggled with larger pieces. We tested the vacuum with kitty litter, and it took 15 passes before the area was spotless. That's a lot – more than twice the passes the two best vacuums in the lineup took to clean the area. This is a great appliance for everyday vacuuming, but you might want to consider another vac if you have children leaving big messes around the house.
The Motion Sync is one of the more maneuverable models we reviewed. Its wheels are able to turn quickly and roll around on most surfaces with little resistance. However, this is the only vacuum in the lineup that requires a separate battery for the handle. It isn't clear to us why the battery is required in the design, since the other vacuums run fine from the main cord. This means an extra cost, though minimal, as you'll need to replace the battery throughout the year.
The best thing about this vacuum is how quiet it is for the power it offers. We measured the maximum volume of the Motion Sync at 72 dB, which is the second lowest in the lineup. For comparison, the loudest vacuum is 89 dB. In decibels, an increase of 10 equals a doubling of volume, making the Motion Sync around 1.6 times quieter than the loudest vacuum. You won't bother sleeping babies or people watching TV in your house when you vacuum with the Motion Sync.
This canister vacuum didn't score points for its portability, either. At 16 pounds, it takes up more space in your closet than the lightweight vacuums in the lineup. You'll feel the difference when you pick it up by the handle or carry it up and down stairs.
The accessories on the Motion Sync are built right into the handle. For when you need extra length or have to clean within small crevices, the head of the vacuum easily flips to an extension wand, crevice tool or upholstery brush.
The canister has a capacity of 2 liters, which is tied for the second biggest of the canister vacuums we tested. This means you spend less time dumping and more time cleaning floors. It is a bagless vacuum and the bin requires minimal cleaning, so you don't have to pay extra to replace bags. The filter, though, does require replacement every six months and is expensive. The other best canister vacuums are truly filterless and require no replacements.
The Motion Sync gets a perfect score for its customer service. Samsung is responsive online, and its website is painless to navigate. There are instructional videos and a clear FAQs page on the site. Most importantly, the warranty on the vacuum is five years, the maximum time available in this category.
The Samsung Motion Sync is an excellent vacuum with minor drawbacks that keep it just behind our top two award winners. It moves well and has a large bin that you can empty quickly, and its low noise level is also convenient. If the vacuum just dropped a few pounds in weight, it would be much more portable. Where this vacuum shines is in everyday cleaning, rather than in quickly removing large messes.
