The Hoover React Powered Reach Plus was competitive in our tests and stands out for many convenience features. This vacuum uses tiny sensors to detect changes in flooring type so it can optimize brushroll speeds based on conditions. We found the feature to be accurate during our tests. The vacuum would automatically change its setting to hardwood floor when it was placed on hardwood. This vacuum also allows you to control some settings, including suction levels.

This vacuum cleaner did a good job of cleaning most flooring types, though it was not quite as efficient as the best of the best. It struggled most on thinner carpets. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 was much better on low-pile carpeting. The React was right around average for the number of passes it took to clean medium-pile carpeting and hardwood flooring.

The React has a relatively wide cleaning head that quickly covers a lot of square footage. The cleaning head has strong headlights for illuminating dark corners so you won't miss anything.

This vacuum is great for multitasking. The hose detaches in two different ways: You can unlatch at the top to attach a tool to the flexible hose for cleaning upholstery. You can also unfasten the rigid cleaning tube for extending your reach to get to cobwebs or anything else up high.

The React is easy to maneuver. The swiveling head moves smoothly around furniture legs and other obstacles. It is a little too bulky to be helpful in cleaning under beds and other low-slung pieces. The cleaning head lifts off the floor if you recline this vacuum very far. The hose and attachments can be used for that task, though. All tools are stored right on the vacuum cleaner's body so you don't have to go and hunt for them.

This unit is a little above average for weight, but there are two handles and they are both more comfortable than some of the other vacuum cleaners' handles. Every little detail can help when it is time to lug your vacuum cleaner up and down stairs.

There were a few units with more suction power, but the Hoover React Powered Reach Plus was easy to maneuver and great at cleaning floors, even if it took a few more passes than the top competitors. You can quickly configure the React in different ways for cleaning furniture, drapes and other areas of the home as well. This is a versatile multitasker and a helpful tool for deep cleaning your home.
