The BISSELL Multi Reach Cordless Vacuum is one of the lightest of the deep vacuum cleaners we tested, and that makes it more comfortable for a long stretch of cleaning than some of the cordless options. It also stood out for its long run time. There was only one competing cordless with a longer battery life.

The Multi Reach tied for fourth in our suction tests, so it didn’t stand out for cleaning prowess, but it left our hardwood flooring clean after testing, even if it took a few more passes on some tests than others. Apart from additional passes to make up for lesser suction, the relatively narrow cleaning head might add to cleaning times because you won't be covering quite as much ground at a time.

This machine tied for second loudest in our comparison of the best hardwood floor vacuums, which was somewhat surprising since it is so compact and lightweight. No one expects silent operation from vacuum cleaners, but the quieter, the better. If you value quiet operation, check out the BISSELL Hard Floor Expert.

The Multi Reach is user-friendly in some ways but not in others. We found it sort of hard to empty. Others made it more obvious how to free their dust cups for emptying and cleaning. Also, the charging cord is short. It was sort of a pain to make sure it could reach the vacuum cleaner.

The Multi Reach is nice in other ways, though. The bright LED headlights out front are designed to make it easy to see messes, and they really do help. You can configure it to become a hand vacuum for cleaning the car and other small tasks. It is also possible to attach the small dusting brush to clean blinds and draperies.

The best vacuum for hardwood floors and area rugs is the one you will use most often, and this BISSELLL could easily become the first cleaning tool you reach for. There are vacuums in our comparison with stronger suction, but the Multi Reach still gets the job done. Also, it has a lightweight design and versatility that make it great for quick cleanups on flooring, furniture, vehicles and other surfaces.
