- Proven to be exceptionally comfortable
- Great for back or side sleepers
- Motion transfer across the mattress is quite high
We liked the Leesa Original so much when we tried it out for a previous mattress guide, we ended up keeping it and using it on our bed.
Over two years of testing, this mattress has proven to be exceptionally comfortable, whether we were sleeping on our back or on our side. The feel from the upper foam layer is soft, yielding, and gentler than alternatives like the Casper. The firmness is medium, somewhere around a 6 or 6.5 out of 10.
One minor criticism of the Leesa Original is that motion transfer across the mattress is quite high. So, if one of the people using it tosses and turns a lot, their partner might end up being disturbed. This is in line with most other foam mattresses – but if you think it’ll be a real problem for you, we recommend considering an alternative less prone to motion transfer, like the Leesa Hybrid mattress.
Leesa Original Mattress review: Features
- Memory foam mattress-in-a-box
- Three-foam design
- 5cm upper layer is made of LSA200 foam
The Leesa Original is a classic memory foam mattress-in-a-box. Even though its three-foam design makes it simpler than the likes of the Nectar mattress, it achieves a level of comfort that’s right at the top end of the market.
This mattress doesn’t do quantity of components; it does quality. The 2-inch upper layer is made of LSA200 foam, which offers a similar comforting feel to latex foam, but without latex’s tendency to cause overheating. On this note, we'd also recommend looking at our best cooling mattress guide.
The central layer is 2-inch of standard memory foam, which relieves pressure on the body; this is the part that brings relief to aching limbs after a hard day’s work. At the bottom, a 6-inch base layer adds support and stability.
We can’t talk about the Leesa Original without mentioning its cover, too. Made with a super-soft grey twill fabric, it’s the best we’ve come across on any mattress.
Leesa Original Mattress: User reviews
Judging by online user reviews, America loves the Leesa Original. As of October 2019, 92% of over 19,000 reviewers on the Leesa website said they would recommend this mattress to a friend. Even more impressively, users have given the Leesa Original an average star rating of 4.5.
The detail of user reviews left on the Leesa site also tends to be highly positive. “I always get a phenomenal night’s sleep,” says one user. “Very comfortable and cool,” says another.
On the downside, some reviewers have pointed out that the Leesa mattress is not supportive enough for larger users. “Not a good fit for big guys”, says one customer.
Should you buy the Leesa Original Mattress?
Based on our testing and user reviews, we’re confident to say most of you will love the Leesa Original memory foam mattress. It’s comfy, it sleeps relatively cool for a foam mattress, and what’s more, your purchase of a Leesa mattress contributes to the good causes Leesa Sleep supports. It isn't quite as bespoke as the Helix Mattress or versatile as the Purple Mattress, but it's still very good.
There’s no mattress on the market that’s perfect for everyone. Those who prefer the firmer support you tend to get with springs should look to hybrid or pocket-sprung mattresses for a more active boost. Heavier users might want to look at alternative options for better support, too. All things considered, we rate the Leesa Original as one of the best mattresses you can buy for side-sleepers.
