It is perhaps unfair to include a product that doesn't defend against phishing in a roundup of reviews about the best security software for Mac. Although this is Apple security software, ProtectMac AntiVirus also operates against malware for Windows. When it scans for viruses, worms, Trojans and spyware, it takes an ecumenical approach and rounds up threats without regard to whether they are destined for Macs or Windows PCs. We are sure that your Windows-using friends and associates would appreciate it if your Mac were not a source of infection for them.

ProtectMac's scanner is always running so that it can find threats without delay. Directly from the Finder, you can scan devices and locations. You also have the ability to runs scans in the background according to a schedule that you control. This internet security for Mac also detects any threat that attempts entry from a newly inserted removable storage device.

ProtectMac AntiVirus updates itself automatically from the publisher every day to maintain the latest product versions and populate its threat database with the latest identities. The updates happen in the background with no restart requirement. ProtectMac AntiVirus has intelligent scanning technology that learns which items are most important to you. You can control which areas of your Mac or network to exclude from and include in the security scans in order to save some time.

ProtectMac AntiVirus' publisher uses email to support customers who require assistance. We found the service to be responsive.

Even though support is restricted to email, the quality and responsiveness are excellent. Although this Mac security software does not attempt to tackle phishing attempts, it goes after all other sorts of malware, whether it is intended for Macs or Windows machines. If you lament the fact that hackers no longer ignore Macs, we commiserate with you about the end of that age of innocence. Rather than pine for the good old days when there weren't enough Mac users to make attacking them worth the hackers efforts, it is time to embrace the change and commit to installing Mac security.
